It’s not just our homes that are in need of a good clean this March – it’s our workplaces as well. The sparkle of the New Year clean has faded and it’s time to refresh your offices with our office spring cleaning checklist, so why not ask your employees to help out?
Here’s everything your team should be doing over the next few weeks to keep your workplace safe and clean, so make sure you encourage everyone to get involved!
1. Desk Detoxes
Cluttered desks are difficult to work at and even harder to keep clean so kick off your spring cleaning efforts by encouraging everyone to tidy up their desks.
It’s a good idea to have this all done in one go, so remind everyone to take some time out of their work day to organise their desk, throw out any clutter and give it a good wipedown. This will give your employees a tidier, more productive workstation and will also give your in-house cleaning team a better chance of keeping everyone’s desks clean during their regular cleaning routine.
2. Clean Office Equipment
Once the desks are clean, move on to the equipment. Fingerprints, dirt smudges, and crumbs can all get into the most unexpected places and affect the functionality of your equipment, so tackle any buildup and disinfect all germs by wiping down all screens, keyboards, laptops and company phones.
Finish up by reorganising any tangled computer wires and don’t forget to inspect all printers, scanners and copiers to make sure they are all clean and working properly as well.
3. Vacuum Carpets
Depending upon the type of flooring that you have, hoover or mop your floors and wait for them to dry before allowing your employees to walk over them again. This will give your space an immediate boost, but be prepared to have to do this at least once a day to keep them looking their best!
4. Clean Welcome Desks
Welcome desks and waiting areas should be kept clean at all times to give a professional first impression and keep visitors comfortable whilst waiting for their appointment. Keep them clear from clutter and have them thoroughly disinfected at the end of every working day to make sure that all employees and visitors are greeted with a well-organised desk and clean seating to get their day off to the best possible start.
5. Refresh The Breakroom
This important office spring cleaning task deserves an entire checklist of its own, but for a quick, manageable refresh make sure that your employees:
- Avoid overcrowding the fridge and always throw away their out-of-date food
- Wash up all dishes and keep the sink clear
- Regularly clean the microwave when needed
- Clean behind appliances on the surface
- Wipe down surfaces to remove crumbs and leftover food
6. Restock The Washroom
Keeping employee washrooms clean isn’t just about removing stains and tackling grime buildup, it’s also about making sure that the facilities are up-to-scratch.
These spaces need to provide all members of the team with a high level of privacy and hygiene, so make sure that all cubicles are spotless and all toilet roll dispensers, soap dispensers, and hand driers are in good working order. If any equipment is found to be broken or worn, replace it immediately before it begins to impact your employee satisfaction or visitor experience.
