Areas to Include in Your Office Cleaning Routine

A good spring clean might be a once-a-year job, but keeping a workplace clean and tidy is a year-round responsibility! Even a highly trained, in-demand cleaning team such as yours might be forgetting to clean these key areas in and around offices, so let’s take a look at the key office cleaning tasks to include in your roster and make sure that there is nowhere left for germs to hide!

1. Keyboards & Mice

Just like lift buttons, communal phones, and doorhandles, keyboards and mice are used all-day, every-day, but they are often overlooked in a cleaning roster. There is no point in giving these high-touch fixtures the wipedown that they need and then leaving the office keyboards to collect germs all day, particularly if the company that you clean for has a policy of hot-desking or booking workspaces, so include them in your daily cleaning routine to tackle cross contamination across the office.

2. Door Handles

Whether you’re cleaning a single office or multiple departments, every door in the building is used countless times a day by multiple people. With so many hands touching these surfaces all day it is essential to regularly disinfect all door handles, including at the beginning and end of each working day, even if they appear clean to the naked eye. This is particularly important during the cold and flu season as handles become hotspots for infection and germs start spreading quicker than you can catch them!

3. Staff Kitchens

Employees come from all over the building to prepare and eat food in these shared spaces, and all food preparation areas need to be kept as clean and hygienic as possible to prevent cross-contamination. This includes wiping down all high-touch surfaces, handles and appliances, as well as clearing out expired food and cleaning up any spills.

Eating food after touching these unclean surfaces can be risky for employees and catastrophic for office-wide health standards, so clean them regularly and remind your clients of the importance of cleaning up after themselves.

4. Blinds

You might not think that blinds need cleaning, but brush your hand through the nearest set and watch how many microfibres and dust particles are released into the air!

Convinced now that these fixtures deserve a spot on your cleaning list? You might not have to worry too much about them collecting germs but both curtains and blinds collect dust, allergens and other small particles that are released into the air every time the curtains are opened. This buildup can also become a real eyesore, so give all the window dressings a good dust when you next clean an office.

5. Light Switches

Just like handles and keyboards, light switches can be used by anyone which means that the next person to touch it can easily take germs back to their desk, into a meeting, or to the employee kitchen. They should be wiped down and disinfected throughout the working day, and it’s also a good idea to give any strip lights a clean every few weeks as a buildup of dust is hard to notice at first but can start to dim the light over time.

UK-Wide Support for Office Cleaning Services

It is said that the office desk harbours around 400 times more germs than a toilet seat – hiding on keyboards and lurking on phones, just waiting to be transmitted to colleagues with a handshake. Multiply this by however many people are working in an office on any given day and you can see why your office cleaning services are in such demand!
